Solskjaer spoke to Manchester United about Haaland, some six months before taking over the bench in December 2018. 
During his time at Molde, Haaland scored 20 goals in 50 games, with all of those appearances coming under Solskjaer. Solskjaer stated that he spoke to Manchester United about Haaland, some six months before he took over as manager at Old Trafford in December 2018.

The two worked together at Molde and Solskjaer was fully aware of Haaland's huge potential , but the striker joined Red Bull Salzburg and then Borussia Dortmund before moving to Manchester City for £51.2m last year..........Now 22, Haaland is undoubtedly one of the stars of world soccer , but he could have ended up at United rather than their cross-town rivals Manchester City......As reported by The Sun, Solskjaer said: "I called United about six months before I took over and told them I had this striker we had, but they wouldn't listen," adding that "I asked for £4m for Haaland but they didn't sign him. ".

After initially being appointed as caretaker manager , Solskjaer became United's manager on a permanent basis before his departure in November 2021.

During his time at Molde, Haaland scored 20 goals in 50 games , with all of those appearances coming under Solskjaer . He had joined the club from Bryne in 2017. Haaland is now enjoying a phenomenal first season in English football and has scored 51 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions .
